[this is good]
beautiful!

and you gave birth to two boys?

o.O

you don't look like it, Mama.

why are the mommies I know so slim???
J...it's a good pattern and is nice about hiding the belly. It's cut on the bias and helps add curves where there are none!

There's also the "inhale hard, now!" technique ;)
I love it! It's a flattering cut and has the perfect length -- just a tad above the knee. Also the waist, ano na nga tawag dun, empire cut ba? That's exactly how I like my dresses! I wish I could sew. I always thought about trying it out since Mama has a sewing machine at home and she can teach me but I don't know......
Mai, get on Joann's mailing list and get the 40% off coupon. Then get cheap material to work with. That way, if you mess up it's not much of a heart break. I expect to make mistakes so I'm never disappointed ;)

After I got the machine, I started looking at my off-the-rack clothes. I was criticizing myself for mistakes that were in a lot of my clothes anyway, so that made it a lot easier to just keep trying.
What does it mean when you say it's cut on the bias?

That is a very nice style for you, Merky. It really really suits you. You look so very tall. Parang endless legs.

Your hair's almost to the middle of your back na?

I can only pray that I be like this when I'm your age or when I have kids (whichever comes first). But I don't really want to have kids. *sigh*

I wonder if you look anything like Karen?
Bakit ganun, yung empire cut sa akin makes me look like I'm prego when it should suit me because I have wider than a hippo's hips.

How does one really know what style suits her? *scratches head*
Jen, bias means the pieces of the fabric are cut so that the weaving is at a 45 degree angle instead of straight horizontal/vertical. It makes fabrics drape better and works nicely for skirts but not pants. I look tall? I didn't even think of that, but I think it's just the picture.

This is empire cut but because it's fitted thru the body, I don't look preggo. If it were loose, I would! Plus I'm short-waisted so empire waist makes my torso look longer instead of short, short, short, as long as I don't wear anything that sits at the waist (I think this would make me look short again if I wore a wide belt).

I look like Karen kinda, but she says my nose is different from hers. You forgot there are a few pics of me on Flickr?
That's so cute! :-)
Jen, I have wide hips too, but you know not all empire cut dresses look ok on me. For me, the fabric is a big factor. Some drape better than others.
Thanks, Anna.

Mai...ya, the fabric is a factor. For me, it's also the cut. It really makes me look preggers if there's a lot of material around the empire waist, but if it's draped closer to the body, it is usually ok.

I decided to take the zipper and neck apart to redo and now I'm having trouble with it. LOL. So much for my "best laid plans"! Here I go again (try #4 or 5) and re-install the zipper.
Where is the zipper located? Is it an invisible type zipper? Mahirap ba yun?
Back. Yes. Yes! Hay nako. Hubby told me to leave it alone for a while and get some sleep before proceeding. I must need it since even the knitting is baffling me (sorry, Anna!)
Yup, to me this dress made you look taller (of course I don't know how tall you are so I may be making idiotic comments).

I've been searching in your flickr before to try to see a pic of you! Now that I know that there really is a pic of you in there, I'm going to really really look! I know I saw a pic of you before with hubby and NM (when NM was very very small pa; think he was a toddler then) and it was on your old site.

Do you remember that purple dress I posted on Vox before when I and my female coworkers decided to wear dresses one day? My sister said I looked prego in it, and another guy said that I did look preggers. I thought I looked fine in it, pero I guess not since two of them said otherwise? Dresses annoy me to bits! But they're easy to wear so I'd like to find a style that suits me.
Mai, you don't look like you have wide hips.

Are all the dresses you buy typically empire style? That dress you wore to R's company party didn't look like it was an empire. Or am I duling?
Yes it is. Notice the waist is just under my bust. Hehe I just looked at all my dresses, and yes, they are all empire.

Not too long ago I had my mom take my measurements for my friend's wedding (bridesmaid dress) and my hips are significantly bigger than my shoulders and chest (not that I didn't know, I always knew that, even before I had a baby). I am really pear-shaped so it's hard to look for a dress. I'm always looking for dresses and buy them when I don't need them if I find the right fit. It's better than finding a dress when you do need one, otherwise you end up paying more for something that's only ok.
I'll have to look at that dress again. (goodness, ang x ng mata ko)

I'll take that kind of approach and buy one when I don't need it. I annoy myself a lot when I cram to buy a dress for some occasion and then buy one that I don't really like.
J...at least there, you have the option to go to a mananahi, diba? Look up Burda 7798 at patternreview.com and you can see the diagram of the dress. You should be able to print it and take it to a seamstress to get a dress made.

Excuse for a divisoria trip :)
....not to mention it's probably cheaper there to have a dress custom made for you!
Very pretty!
I love it! Dresses cut on the bias always hang so prettily. good job!
That's what my mom said too about those invisible zippers (mahirap daw). But I love them!
