In honor of Independence Day (and the fact that my right hand/arm is still not up to knitting*), I made a banner with some scrap fabric plus new fabric the kids helped to pick out.
Looks ok here. I really like it. In spite of the fact that the machine was totally misbehaving, it did get done and I kept my cool.
Happy 4th of July!
*I was almost all better when I bought and helped hubby lift and set up a rug for upstairs. This rug is the third (and hopefully) last one in our saga of rugs. The first wasn't working with the vacuum which has since been returned. The second was the no-end-to-shedding-ever rug so it went back. I like this one and I hope that it flattens out soon so we don't have to exchange that one either. But now my right arm needs to relax a while again.
I'm at my parents' place for the week, and it's been really awesome so far. The most obvious reason is because I'm not in Ohio. Also, because my mom keeps giving me money for stuff. And Cory (my brother) and I went to the White Sox game last night. And today I went to my favorite yarn store ever, Knitche. And I went to World Market for the first time ever and it's pretty much my favorite store now, besides IKEA and H&M. Hooray, stuff!
So first was my visit to Knitche. I wanted to get a skein of Malabrigo to make another One Skein Wonder, and two skeins of Rowan Pure Wool DK. I got the Malabrigo, but they don't carry Pure Wook DK yet. So I got Norah Gaughan vol. 3, two skeins of Blue Sky Alpacas Skinny Dyed Organic Cotton, and two skeins of Katia Colibri.
Then when I was at home I found my mom's collection of old juke box 45s.
mmmm, vinyl

I'm on a knitting role lately. I think I mentioned earlier that I got an informal commission to make some hats. Well, I made some hats.
Now I'll leave you with the TILT I made yesterday and forgot about. Oops.

I wanted something quick to knit, and it turns out this was incredibly quick to knit.
This is also my 33rd (!) project of the year. I hit my goal. Go me! Now I'm off to see if I can hit 50 projects before the end of the year. I think I can do it.

sorry have never done this before. i'm Rosie of Rosie's Geese.
Just wanted to say HELLO. Can anyone come up with something to work on that doesn't require ALOT of sight?
thanks.
Because of everything that's been going on, I've packed up my sewing machine and put away the stuff I had in my quilting studio. I have bins and bins of beautiful, rich cotton fabrics that are now in storage. I can hear my entire stash screaming, telling me that their colours won't wait for me to pull them out, and when fabric screams to you and you are a quilter... you hear it.
I didn't realize how much I missed making my quilts until the other night. Smike and I were bored with what was on television so we were cruising the channels. We settled on an episode of Penn and Teller's "BULLSHIT!" in which they debate the theory that pornography is harmful.
During this episode, they are showing various images from different porn films and commenting on how much fun it is for them to watch the boobies, etc. Me? I'm hoping they will get back to interviewing the gal with the flowchart, because she has a giant rainbow-hued quilt behind her and I can't decide if it's string-pieced or a pattern of some sort.
So basically, there are people fornicating right in front of me, and I am just waiting it out because I want to see the quilt. Not likely to be a normal reaction from most folks.
Maybe it is true that porn doesn't cause adverse effects, but sewing fabric can sure make you an addicted quiltaholic.
My new addition to the Futurama family:
Well, after I post this.
Next up is a hat or two for a commission. The story goes like this. Ever since I finished my thesis, I've been at a loss of what to do at my computer lab job. I mean, before, I could write and research. But now I just sit there for seven hours. So. I started hard-core knitting while on the job (hence so many FOs lately). A woman saw me knitting, and asked if I'd knit for her. Pssh, why not? Easy money! And motivation to use up my stash of yarn. So my first project is the Twirly Top Toque from One-Skein Wonders.
Now I'm off to watch some tentacle-filled-sci-fi-cartoon-action-adventure goodness!
